So many words in our English language have several applications. Let’s explore those applications for the word immunity and see how they apply to us physically and spiritually.

Immunity in the medical arena is the balanced state of having adequate biological defenses to fight infection, disease, or other unwanted biological invasion, while having adequate tolerance to avoid allergy, and autoimmune diseases.  (Wikipedia)

Immunity in governmental arena is a form of legal immunity that ensures diplomats are given safe passage and are considered not susceptible to lawsuit or prosecution under the host country’s laws.

Reality shows are saturated with immunity for contestants wanting to be the winner whether it is about survival or cooking.  Win a round and you will earn immunity and be safe for the next round of elimination.

We understand the importance of having a healthy immune system in our physical bodies.  There are choices we make that may play into how strong our physical immune system.  Both a good healthy diet and maintaining an exercise program to keep our heart healthy are important.

The Spiritual side of our existence is just as important.  Proverbs 4:23 tells us to guard our hearts above all else, for it determines the course of your life. (NLT)

Guarding our heart means that we are partnering with the Holy Spirit to keep our hearts pure and free from any damaging outside influences coming by hurtful words spoken to us or any demonic impressions the enemy taunts us with in our thoughts.

Here is somethings I have learned about his tactics.  First, he doesn’t have power like we sometimes ascribe to him.  He only can use what is knowable and I don’t believe he is clairvoyant and able to read minds.  If we speak it aloud, he can then use it against us by building doubt, fear, and hopelessness in our minds.  His power is only what we give him. That is his only playing field.  We should even say things like, “my back is killing me”, or “my kids are driving me nuts”.  I know this may sound silly, but really is it?

Here is what I have come to understand and believe.  Think about immunity in the area of government being a ruling authority.  Citizens of every country are subject to the laws of the land in which they live.  If we are born again of the Spirit, we become citizens of the Kingdom of God where Christ, the Almighty Reigning King is in charge.  And if we believe as the Word of God says, we are ambassadors of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20), then we have diplomatic immunity while we are in the world that is under satanic rule.  We are not of this world therefore, we are not subject to any devices the devil may attempt to use against us.  We can tell him that we have diplomatic immunity from his domain just like foreign dignities that visit other countries and can claim diplomatic immunity.

2 Thessalonians 3:3 says, “But the Lord is faithful; He will strengthen and guard you from the evil one.” (HCSB)

1 John 5:18 says, We know that everyone who has been born of God does not sin, but the One who is born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him.”  (HCSB)

These two Scriptures tell me that I never have to come under any attack that the devil launches against me if I am guarding my heart and keeping my mind on the things of God.

That being said, I know that there are things that we may have to battle in this life.  The secret is how we handle the circumstances we face.  Even when we suffer for a little while, we use what God has provided for us and stand in the battle as an overcomer because Jesus overcame the world.
