If you are like most of us, you have asked “What is my purpose?” The dictionary defines purpose as an anticipated outcome that is intended or that guides your planned actions or the quality of being determined to do or achieve something. So with the definition in mind can you answer the question of what your purpose is?
We will have several purposes in life and sometimes more than one at a time. It may be your intended purpose is to further your education to qualify for a better job. Or perhaps you have determined to take better care of yourself and purpose to change your diet and get more exercise.
Having a sense of purpose is a key source of strength especially when times get tough. When we hang onto our goal or purpose that is bigger than the present things we face, we will find that hope gives us the determination to press on.
As a citizen of the Kingdom of God my purpose is to seek to know His purposes and plans for my journey through this life. As He unfold them to me, I trust Him to guide me knowing that the outcome of following His lead will be good and according to His purpose.
Psalm 37:23-24 tells me that the Lord delights in the details of my life and He directs my steps. Even when I fall down, He never let’s go of my hand. He gives us assurance to just keep on the path He prepares for us to follow. Proverbs 3:5-6 instructs us to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.” (NIV)
Each day is a new day and we can choose to commit the day to Him no matter what we did or didn’t do the day before. We can choose to continue faithfully step by step on the path of life knowing He has it prepared and that it leads us to a glorious destiny.
