Meet Mr. Pelican.  He and I met one beautiful sunny Florida afternoon on the shores of Lake Okeechobee.  I’m not sure if he felt I was a threat or not, but he just stood there and let me walk close and around him to get a picture. The only thing that moved was his eyes as he followed my movement.

I think he is a handsome and stunning creature.  So there he stood in all the goodness that God created him to be. Of course, if you have ever watched them in flight, they are beautiful when they ride the currents in the air above the ocean water.  It is another thing when they spot something and begin there decent to catch the prey.  They are all wings floppy in a very clumsy fashion.

What I took away from my encounter with my pelican friend is his ability to stand even if he felt I was a threat.  It speaks to me about how important it is for us to stand.  First, stand for what we believe in.  Stand for The promises of God, and for justice and righteousness.  Stand in the gap. Especially for all those can’t stand for themselves. Stand even when doubt or fear invades your territory.  Stand united in one heart, one mind, one spirit, and be the one Body that Christ made us by His sacrifice on the Cross.  Stand when the American Flag passes by and be thankful for all who stand in service for our country.  Stand in the face of the devil in your position in Christ Jesus and tell him to flee.

The apostle Paul believed in standing clothed in the Armor of God through every trial and set back he faced and gave us this exhortation.

Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.  Therefore, put on the full armor of God, st that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.” Eph. 6:11-13 (Read verses 14-17 and put it on and never take it off)
