DOWNLOAD

When I woke up a few weeks ago I heard one word. I knew the Lord had something for me to put to print.  I could have dismissed it thinking that I had been dreaming and, in my dream, I was using my computer to download something.  But as I continued to seek the Lord for how to bring something from His heart to mine and then to pass it on.  So here it is.

In computer networks, download means to receive data from a remote system, typically a server such as a web server, an email  server, or other similar systems.  Many of us download data and pictures from text messages and emails every day.

Across the unseen network highway data is being transmitted and downloaded every day.  According to a report on forbes.com on August 7, 2019 it was reported that across the world, places are collecting data at a speed that would shock us all.  App downloads were reported at 390,030 a minute.

So, lets understand what Data is. Data is distinct pieces of information, usually formatted in a special way.  Since the mid-1900s, people have used the word data to mean computer information that is transmitted or stored.

Where am I going with this?  Glad you asked.  First, I am certainly not a neuroscientist, or in any means expert on the brain.  I do believe, however, we received data through our mind and the brain stores data.

All our thoughts, feelings, attitudes, beliefs, memories and imaginations are data forming intricate patterns of nerve cell firing and chemical releases that transmit throughout our body. The brain is the central processing unit and plays a key role in translating the data that crosses our mind.

Since we are spiritual beings by design, data that gets stored in our brain plays into our spiritual and physical health for good or bad.

Again, mentioned above what might be data, I would suggest that we can receive data from many sources.  There is a very malicious source that we need to consider and recognize.  I believe the one who is out to rob, kill, and destroy, plants thoughts in our mind which are lies.  If we allow the download of his evil intended data, it will have its effect on us.  We will be robbed of peace and our whole being can be unsettled.  Fear and anxiety can begin to affect us emotionally and physically.

Let’s be clear about how the devil works.  Even though he has no authority over anyone of us he does have power.  But he only has power when someone yields to his evil lies and deception.  Philippians 4:7 instructs us to always guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. And Proverbs 4:23 tells us to guard our hearts with all diligence, for out of the heart flows the issues of life.

I believe our part is to firmly believe who we are in Christ and what His Grace is about.  As stated earlier, we are a spiritual being.  Before Christ we were lost in sin, and our true self by God’s design was dead in trespasses.  When we come in humility and repentance acknowledging our fallen state of being separated from God, we find the Amazing Grace for our redemption.  Here are a couple of verses that speak to this.

“As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is at work in those who are disobedient.” Ephesians 2:1-2

“When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ.  He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.”  Colossians 2:13-14

What these two verses tell us is that we were first a part of fallen humanity and then raised a new creature in Christ Jesus. We are citizens of His Kingdom and no longer part of this world.  In is from our position in Christ, we can hold fast to who we are in Him. We can lay hold of all that we have been given in Christ.  He has already done it all for us by defeating the enemy.  It is up to us to believe and follow His Words to the full and abundant life He has provided.

I am thankful that in our innermost being there is an option to delete any unwanted or destructive data that we may have downloaded. We can consciously decide what we will allow to be saved in our mind and brain.    We can apply God’s Truth to any data and be able to discern what we need to delete.  God who cannot lie is an expert in exposing lies.

Anything we believe or express about ourselves that doesn’t line up with what God says about us is rooted in lies.  Just as we spend time deleting unwanted files (downloaded data) from our computers, we need to spend time in the secret place with our Father and the Holy Spirit.  He will reveal what data we need to delete. Jesus did tell us that the Holy Spirit would lead us into all Truth.  When the lie is exposed, we can delete it and replace with the Truth of His Word.
